Garth’s Tips On Nailing Your DIY Video Like a Pro
- Natural light is your best friend – but ensure it’s behind the camera not behind you!
- Shoot in small 30 – 40 second snippets to make it easier for post-production and minimise the need for you to edit your content
- If you are shooting outdoors, make sure it’s nice and quiet, especially if you are filming with a smartphone for audio clarity.
- Investing in things such as a good tripod and a Bluetooth mic can take your DIY video to the next level.
- Outsource your editing, especially if you are wanting to create graphics and branded content videos.
- Practice makes perfect- the more time you spend in front of a camera, the more comfortable you’ll be.
- Write what you want to say down, then practice it (start with around 100 words of a script) then redraft it in bullet points and tape it up next to your camera as a prompt.
- Have fun! Humorous video content is going viral during coronavirus and the Covid-19 crisis so think about ways you can embrace humour in a respectful but fun way to lighten things up and engage your audience!
